Fortnite Rocket Racing, the Rocket League-inspired game mode coming to Fortnite on December 8, got a closer look during The Game Awards.
Rocket League developer Psyonix teamed up with Epic Games to deliver Fortnite Rocket Racing, a mode that puts players behind the wheel in a colorful, chaotic race to the finish line. The trailer itself revealed some interesting twists, including a new player’s vehicle popping out of thin air to take on the driver in first place. Later, one of Fortnite’s iconic llamas appears in the middle of the raceway, seeming to function as an obstacle similar to the red shells seen in Mario Kart. It’s worth noting, however, that the trailer is cinematic, and did not feature gameplay, so it’s unclear how some of the events featured in the trailer will actually play out in-game.
“Fortnite is expanding into a full-on platform with tons of new experiences beyond battle royale,” The Game Awards creator and host Geoff Keighley said of the new game mode, which launches tomorrow, December 8.
The latest season of Fortnite made some big changes across the board, and may have even been the biggest single update in the game’s history. In addition to Fortnite Rocket Racing, the new season included a new Minecraft-like building mode that partnered with the popular Lego brand of building bricks, and a Fortnite Festival mode with Rock Band-like mechanics set to launch later this week.
