Update: As of February 20, both Ryu and Chun-Li are now available in Fortnite. You can see them in the game’s item shop and Epic Games has released a trailer to celebrate the crossover. Season 6 is likely going to begin later this month.
Original story follows…
After a prior leak, Epic Games has confirmed that the Street Fighter crossover in Fortnite is real. Series regulars Chun-Li and Ryu will join the game through the Zero Point on February 20 at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET, according to the YouTube description of the official reveal trailer below.
This confirmation comes after Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR shared images showing what’s inside the next portal. The previous portal showed Tron imagery prior to an official announcement, so it’s no surprise to see this become official. If the level looks familiar, it may be because in addition to several Street Fighter games, it’s also Ryu’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stage.
We were able to verify this portal spotted by ShiinaBR ourselves by visiting an area southwest of Sweaty Sands. You have to be standing in the correct spot for the portal to open.
The official Fortnite Twitter account later shared a Reality Log where “Hadouken” is said. “Shoryuken” is also heard, and Troy Baker’s character mentions being “almost out of quarters.”
The timing makes sense, even without a big new Street Fighter update. Just a few days ago, Capcom released the Capcom Arcade Stadium game on Nintendo Switch. It’s a museum of sorts through years of Capcom’s history, ranging from the ’80s to the early 2000s, and it features several variants of Street Fighter 2.
Fortnite has already featured guest appearances from franchises like Star Wars, Tron, Predator, Halo, God of War, and GI Joe during this season, with some including missions while others are limited to skins and other cosmetic items. This week also brought with it new challenges, including using a harpoon gun on three opponents, dealing damage immediately after gliding, and destroying inflatable tubeman llamas near gas stations.
