Anya Taylor-Joy may not have much to say in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, but it’s always a bad idea to cross her. Marvel’s Thor, Chris Hemsworth, is appearing as Warlord Dementus opposite Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa, and he’s the man who was responsible for tearing her away from her home. (He’s also a major highlight, as you can read about in our Furiosa review.) Now, in a preview clip from Furiosa, she finally has a chance to get her revenge.
Unfortunately for Furiosa, Dementus is just a little bit faster on the draw, and his rocket launcher dwarfs her riffle. A chaotic scene is unfolding around them, and it’s unclear if Furiosa is working with the raiders who have attacked Dementus. Whatever the case, she had her shot and didn’t get to make it. That may come back to haunt her.
Warner Bros. has also released a new Furiosa featurette that lets Taylor-Joy, Hemsworth, director George Miller, and more weigh in on the two main characters. The short version is that Furiosa wants to go home, and Dementus is in her way. And she’ll stop at nothing to make him pay for what he did to her.
This film will take place over 15 years and chronicle the origin story of Furiosa before she met Max in Mad Max: Fury Road. There will also be a few cameos from familiar faces who were last seen in Fury Road.
Furiosa will open in theaters on Friday, May 24.
