The next Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, is aiming to release in “late 2025.” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed this during the company’s latest earnings briefing on Friday (via TVLine). Also during the call, Zaslav announced that the upcoming Harry Potter TV series is aiming to release in 2026.
The Hedge Knight was announced in April 2023 and will be written by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker. House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal is an executive producer.
The show takes place 100 years before the events of HBO’s Game of Thrones and follows the story of a naive knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Egg. “Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends,” reads a line from the show’s description.
Game of Thrones fans don’t have to wait until 2025 for more content, though, as House of the Dragon Season 2 is coming this year. The Hedge Knight is expected to begin filming this Spring.
Beyond these shows, HBO is exploring a Jon Snow series that brings back Kit Harington. Another show, Nine Voyages, has shifted from live-action to animation. Another show, chronicling Aegon’s conquest, is in the works from the writer of The Batman.
Martin has admitted that he has no idea if any of the in-development Game of Thrones projects will actually get made. “Nothing is certain in Hollywood,” he said.
