High on Life, the popular game from Rick & Morty creator Justin Roiland’s Squanch Games, is becoming an animated TV series. Deadline reports that Emmy-winning actor JB Smoove (Cub Your Enthusiasm) is attached as a producer on the series via his Alternate Side Productions outfit.
Smoove voiced Gus in the video game, and the site reported there is a “good chance” he will come back to voice that role again for the TV series.
The game also featured the voices of Susan Sarandon, Andy Daly, Tim Robinson, Tom Kenny, Thomas Middleditch, Jack Black, and Jennifer Hale.
“They invited me to join them in the gaming universe and now I’m helping them move into the TV world!” Smoove said in a statement. “It’s a case of a game recognizing game! High on Life is wild, weird, and wonderful, and the series is going to be that and more! Get ready to laugh your way through space with some unforgettable characters like myself! We are locked and loaded and ready to go!”
High on Life was originally released in December 2022 for Xbox and PC, arriving on Game Pass at launch. It was a huge success on Game Pass, becoming the subscription service’s “biggest” release of 2022 and the biggest third-party launch of all time for Game Pass until Palworld dethroned it in 2024. The game has since been removed from the Game Pass catalog.
Roiland left Squanch Games following domestic abuse charges; those charges were later dismissed. High on Life later came to PS4 and PS5 in July 2023, and the High on Knife paid expansion came out in October 2023.
