Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio Gets Its First Proper Teaser Trailer

The first full teaser trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s stop-motion animated film, Pinocchio, giving us our first look at the puppet coming to life. The movie will hit Netflix this December.

At the start of the year, we got a brief teaser that gave us a taste of Ewan McGregor’s performance as Sebastion J. Cricket; however, the new video shows the wooden boy who can’t be held down by any strings in action. In this particular iteration of the story, puppet-maker Geppetto, voiced by David Bradley (Harry Potter), mourning the loss of his son, carves the young Pinocchio to keep him company, with the story promising to be a dark take on the classic tale.

In addition to a Netflix release, Pinocchio will have a limited theatrical release in November. Disney’s own live action adaptation of Pinocchio, starring Tom Hanks as Geppetto, is set to launch on Disney+ September 8, making the end of the year a very puppet oriented one.

The film stars Gregory Mann as the titular Pinocchio, alongside Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer), Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings), John Turturro (The Batman), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Tim Blake Nelson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), and Burn Gorman (Pacific Rim).

Del Toro is directing alongside Mark Gustafson, who served as animation director on Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox. Del Toro served as screenwriter on the project, alongside Over The Garden Wall’s Patrick McHale, overall building up to a very strong crew.

The Jim Henson Company is also on production duties, obviously known for The Muppets, likely responsible for the stop-motion puppets for the film.
