Halle Berry On Making Catwoman: "One Of The Biggest Paydays Of My Whole Life"

Actress Halle Berry does not regret starring as Catwoman in the 2004 superhero film. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Berry said she didn’t always want to pursue “award-worthy” projects and sometimes just wanted to make some cash.

“For me, it was one of the biggest paydays of my whole life, which, there’s nothing wrong with that…. I don’t want to feel like, ‘Oh, I can only do award-worthy stuff.’ What is an award-worthy performance?” she said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Berry said Catwoman is not a film that she’s “totally in love with,” but she pointed out that acting is her career, not a hobby. “It’s how I take care of my children. But I try to keep that sense of wonder and stay curious. Because being a Black woman, I haven’t always had parts that I absolutely love,” she said.

Berry starred in Catwoman after she won an Oscar for 2001’s Monsters Ball. Berry also earned acclaim for Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (1999), which earned her a Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe award. Berry would go on to star in the James Bond movie Die Another Day in 2002.

Berry’s latest project is Bruised, which debuts on Netflix later this year. She stars in the sports movie and also directs, making her directorial debut.

The latest DC movie is The Suicide Squad from director James Gunn. The movie is in theaters and on HBO Max now, and reviews are very good.
