Harry Potter TV Series Aiming To Release In 2026

The Harry Potter TV series is coming in 2026, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said during the company’s earnings call on Friday. Of course, schedules change regularly in Hollywood, so there is no guarantee that it will come out that year, but that’s the window WBD is targeting.

“We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter,” Zaslav said, as reported by IGN. “The last film was made more than a dozen years ago. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max. We’re aiming for a debut in 2026.”

Zaslav said he recently had a meeting with J.K. Rowling, HBO boss Casey Bloys, and WB TV boss Channing Dungey to discuss the project. “Both sides just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead,” he said.

Rowling is involved with the TV series as an executive producer. She continues to face criticism and controversy over comments about transgender issues.

The untitled Harry Potter series is described as a “faithful adaptation” of the books. WBD said it is planning a “decade-long” series featuring “a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom.”

“Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world,” WBD said. It was previously reported that there would be seven seasons, each adapting one of the books.

No casting announcements for the Harry Potter series have been made as of yet.
