HBO Boss Reveals House Of The Dragon Season 2 Release Date Window And Talks Spin-Offs

The Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon will probably return sometime in 2024, according to HBO programming boss Casey Bloys. He told Variety that a 2024 launch for Season 2 “is a good guess,” but that’s all the executive had to share.

Bloys also remarked that Season 2 likely won’t be eligible for the 2024 Emmy season, which ends May 31, 2024. As such, it looks like fans can expect House of the Dragon to arrive sometime starting from June 2024.

HBO is developing a number of additional Game of Thrones spin-offs, including one focused on Jon Snow, but Bloys wouldn’t be drawn into discussing any of them except for at a very high level. “My philosophy is a good script is number one priority,” he said. “I am not doing it based on wanting to have one a year, two a year. I want to do it based on the scripts that we’re excited about.”

He added: “You have to develop a lot of things, try things. You never know what’s going to work. So we’re currently doing that. I’m not opposed to any number of shows. There’s probably a natural limit to how many fans want, but I’m open to any as long as we feel really good about the scripts and the prospects for a series.”

Other Game of Thrones spin-offs right now include Ten Thousand Ships, Sea Snake, and The Hedge Knight/Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. There is no guarantee that any of the shows will actually be made, however, but scripts are being written.
