HBO Max has released a new teaser for Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, the upcoming reunion of the main cast of the Harry Potter films. The “retrospective special” will hit the streaming service on January 1, 2022.
The clip plays it pretty close to the vest–mainly, it shows a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glance of some of the previously announced participants holding an invitation from Hogwarts or arriving via train. A synopsis for the reunion says it “will tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time.” Check out the new teaser below.
Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, and Ian Hart will appear as well. Chris Columbus, who directed the original Harry Potter, will appear, too, along with special guests to be announced later. (Noticeably not mentioned so far is Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who has faced criticism over her comments about sex and gender issues.)
A first look at the special premiered recently, during the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses quiz competition on November 28.
HBO Max recently played host for another high-profile reunion, as the streaming platform also had the popular Friends reunion special earlier this year.
