Hearthstone is preparing to introduce the most powerful characters in Warcraft lore with the upcoming Titans expansion. As the name suggests, it centers around the god-like Titans, introducing new and powerful minions and spells to the long-running card game. Every good pantheon of the gods needs a blacksmith, and so GameSpot can exclusively reveal the Titan forge-master: the neutral legendary Ignis, the Eternal Flame.
Ignis relies on the new Titans expansion keyword, Forge. If a card has the Forge keyword, you can drag it to the forge (your deck) to hammer out an extra ability at the cost of two mana. Ignis’ special ability will trigger if you’ve used a Forge ability at any point over the course of the game–and it’s a powerful payoff for packing some Forge cards in your deck.
Ignis lets you build your own customized weapon by selecting options from three phases. First, you choose your weapon cost, which grants its attack and durability stats. Next, you select from one of five traits, like Poisonous or Windfury. Finally, you’ll select from one of five special abilities, like drawing cards or dealing direct damage. Those special abilities are determined by the strength of your weapon, so for example, if you chose a higher-tier weapon, you’ll draw more cards.
In order, your selections will be:
Base Weapon:
Runic Shortsword (1-cost, 2/2)Runic Axe (5-cost, 3/4)Runic Greatmace (10-cost, 5/6)
Trait:
Deceit of Loken (Poisonous)Hope of Sif (Lifesteal)Storm of Thorim (Windfury)Flame of Odyn (Also damages adjacent minions)Spark of Ra-den (Your hero is Immune while attacking)
Special Ability:
Genius of Mimiron (After your hero attacks, summon a random 2/4/8-cost minion)Pain of Jotun (Battlecry: Deal 2/4/6 damage)Wisdom of Freya (After your hero attacks, draw 1/2/3 cards)Chill of Hodir (Deathrattle: Deal 1/2/4 damage to all enemies)Light of Tyr (After your hero attacks, gain 2/4/8 armor)
This relies on the Discover mechanic, so for the latter two selections you’ll be given three randomized options out of the five available ones. That keeps the card balanced by assuring that you can’t necessarily build an entire strategy around one surefire forged weapon.
You can see all of the selections with art below. Hearthstone Titans is launching on August 1. Preorders for the expansion are available now, in two tiers. The standard preorder includes 60 packs, two random Legendary cards, and an Inge cardback. The Mega Bundle includes 80 packs, five Golden packs, one Signature Legendary, one Golden Legendary, the Death Knight Inge hero skin and card back, and a Diamond Zilliax card.
