Hulu has released a 15-second teaser for its upcoming reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic, Hellraiser. The all-new film will be hitting Hulu on October 7.
A synopsis in part reads: In Hellraiser, “a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.” Check out the teaser below.
Hellraiser will reunite director David Bruckner, writers Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, writer-producer David S. Goyer, and producer Keith Levine–who all collaborated with Clive Barker on 2020’s The Night House.
The coming movie’s cast includes Odessa A’zion (Fam), Jamie Clayton (The L Word: Generation Q), Adam Faison (Everything’s Gonna Be Okay), Drew Starkey (Outer Banks), Brandon Flynn (Ratched), Aoife Hinds (The Long Call), Jason Liles (Stereoscope), Yinka Olorunnife (The Transporter), Selina Lo (Boss Level), Zachary Hing (Halo), Kit Clarke (Leonardo), Goran Visnjic (The Boys) and Hiam Abbass (Succession).
In a press release last year, Bruckner offered high praise to Barker’s stewardship of this reboot and Clayton’s role in her job. “It’s been such an honor to have Clive onboard to help support and shepherd us through the incredible universe he created so long ago,” he said. “Combined with a fearless and committed cast, including the amazing Jamie Clayton, who fully embodies the role as the Hell Priest, we’re aiming to create a very special new chapter in the Hellraiser legacy.”
This is the fourth attempt at remaking Hellraiser, a saga that began way back in 2006 with Dimension Films. The project went through three sets of directors before ultimately being shelved in 2013. The Spyglass/Bruckner reboot appears to be unrelated to the canceled projects.
A few years ago, there was also talk of a Hellraiser series being developed for HBO.
