Call of Duty’s Monday weekly briefing highlights all the juicy intel for Season 4’s upcoming arrival for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone on June 17. The roadmap reveals a new battle pass, more modes, operators, and weapons are coming, as well as a new limited-time event.
Limited-Time Event
Season 4 kicks off the limited-time “Ground Fall” event, which will have players find and secure SAT-Links to score exclusive rewards. For this event, players will have mission objectives pertaining to both Black Ops Cold War and new points of interest in Warzone. Completing these objectives will earn rewards such as emblems, calling cards, weapon charm, and some XP. Completing every challenge earns an epic secondary weapon blueprint.
This will have the same event tab as past events, so it will be easy to keep track of progress and rewards.
Operators
The new operators will be coming to Cold War and Warzone this season.
Jackal, the metal-masked South African native, is available with Season 4’s launch at tier 0 in the Season 4 battle pass, and an additional ultra-rarity Jackal skin is unlocked at tier 100. Salah, a member of Egypt’s elite Unit 77, will be available later in the season. Also later in the season, Grigori Weaver will make his operator debut with an operator skin based on his original Black Ops appearance.
New Weapons
Five new weapons are coming. Season 4 will have two weapons unlockable in the battle pass, while three are unlocked through challenges.
MG 82 light machine gun is described as having the highest fire rate in class with improved aiming speed, as well as moderate recoil and damage with increased ammo capacity. It’s unlockable at tier 15 of the battle pass.
The C58 assault rifle is a full-auto assault rifle. It offers high damage at close range with a slower fire rate. It’s unlockable at tier 31 of the battle pass.
The Nail Gun is a fully automatic nail gun, which serves as a 1980s variant of the nail gun seen in Black Ops 3.
Coming later in the season, OTs 9 submachine gun is described as boasting great stopping power and rate of fire, but is hindered by a low magazine capacity of 20 rounds.
The Mace melee weapon will also arrive later in the season, allowing players to bludgeon their enemies with a medieval mace.
The Nail Gun, OTs 9, and Mace weapons will all be available by completing an in-game challenge to unlock the base weapon or purchasing a cosmetic bundle.
New Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer Maps
Collateral takes place in the scorching desert of Algeria, where a CIA satellite has crashed into an abandoned village. There are two variants of the map. Collateral Strike is tailored for 6v6 play, while the 12v12 version includes vehicular combat.
Amsterdam is a new close-quarters map built for Gunfight 2v2 and Face Off 3v3, which provides rooftop fights from a setting featured in the Black Ops Cold War’s campaign mission “Nowhere Left to Run.”
Hijacked, the superyacht from Black Ops 2 arrives at the launch of Season 4, while Rush, the paintball-themed 6v6 map from Black Ops 2 will be available later in the season.
New Modes In Black Ops Cold War
Multi-Team: Sat-Link is a new Fireteam mode that requires players to power up satellites and keep them online for as long as possible to gain points. As usual with Fireteam modes, this is played with ten squads of four on the large-scale Ural Mountains maps. The team that reaches the score limit first gets the win.
One in the Chamber, the classic Black Ops party game, will arrive with the launch of Season 4. In this free-for-all mode players only have one bullet to start, and only receive another bullet after earning a kill.
Later in the season, Capture the Flag will arrive to Black Ops Cold War, which serves as the classic Call of Duty objective mode where squads must take the enemy’s flag and return it to their home base, while also defending theirs from the enemy team.
Zombies
Season 4 brings more Outbreak content to Cold War’s Zombies. Zoo is the new Outbreak map, featuring a Ural Mountains zoo that’s filled with the undead. The Dark Aether storyline also continues in Outbreak, as the “Operation Excision” storyline quest will begin, allowing players to experience the narrative prologue for “Mauer der Toten,” the next round-based map coming mid-season. Mauer der Toten is set in war-torn East Berlin after a devastating zombie invasion has overtaken the city.
New Onslaught content is coming for PlayStation. In this PlayStation-exclusive Zombies experience, Collateral will be a new map on launch day, and there will be new story intel to discover.
Later in the season, Rush will be added to Onslaught. And the new “Onslaught Accelerated” limited-time mode, which also comes with a unique legendary LMG weapon blueprint for completing an Onslaught-specific challenge.
Warzone
New Event Points Of Interest
In Season 4, several satellites have crash-landed in Verdansk, and players will want to investigate their rubble. The sites won’t appear on the map, but the areas will be plainly visible in Verdansk. The downed satellites themselves can also be secured.
Interacting with the Sat-Links found in the area will count toward receiving permanent rewards in the Ground Fall event. You can also gain helpful items to use during the match, such as powerful killstreaks, vehicles, and field upgrades.
The previously leaked Red Doors are here. Activision’s blog post describes them as:
They allow you to [[REDACTED]] around the [[REDACTED]]. What’s behind them? Explore and enter them to [[REDACTED]] across the [[REDACTED]].
Red Doors won’t [[REDACTED]] unless you ping them, and after you step through, there’s no telling [[REDACTED]] exiting out the other side… and stepping into a [[REDACTED]].
The previous leaks showed the red doors as being Warzone’s new fast travel system, so players will likely want to find these red doors to traverse the map faster.
New Gulag
A new gulag arrives for Season 4, as a mock-up of the classic map Hijacked will replace the current Standoff Gulag.
New Vehicle
Dirt bikes are the first brand-new vehicle to arrive in Verdansk. Just like the other vehicles in warzone, these bikes will be scattered across Verdansk and ready to use at the start of a match.
New Modes
Verdansk is getting a Rebirth Island-style Resurgence mode. There’s no Gulag in Resurgence, and the matches will feature smaller lobby sizes, depending on the squad size.
Coming mid-season, players can expect an objective mode for Warzone. Payload drops 40 players into a match to either escort two caravans of vehicles through a series of checkpoints or sabotage the mission. Players must build or destroy barriers and purchase buildings to aid in the mission.
The Season 4 update will be available for Black Ops Cold War on June 15 at 9 PM PT/ 12 AM ET and will be available for Warzone June 16 at 9 PM PT/ 12 AM ET.
