Here's Joe Biden Playing Mario Kart With His Granddaughter

US President Joe Biden is among the many millions of Mario Kart fans, recently playing the arcade version of the hit kart racing series at Camp David to unwind with his granddaughter. Naomi Biden captured the moment in an Instagram story that has since expired, but not before the internet took notice and captured the moment.

Biden loves cars–he has a fancy 1976 Chevy Stingray convertible–but presidents are not allowed to drive due to safety and security risks. So playing Mario Kart might have been the first time he’s gotten back behind the wheel after becoming the 46th President of the United States back in January.

From the look of the image, it appears Biden and his granddaughter were playing Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, which is a special version of the game featuring a real steering wheel.

According to Naomi, the President “barely” won in his race against her. “Secret service made an exception and let him drive himself!!!” Naomi wrote in her Instagram story, which was captured by White House reporter Jennifer Epstein.

This is not the first time Biden has been involved in a story about video games. In 2020, Biden recalled meeting with a Silicon Valley video game figurehead who he had little fondness for. “And at one point, one of the little creeps sitting around that table, was a multi–close to a billionaire–who told me he was an artist because he was able to come up with games to teach you how to kill people,” he said.

In 2013, as vice president, he spoke about the possibility of applying additional taxes to violent media. He was also seeking to meet with members of the games industry to discuss the links between games and gun violence.
