Highwater Is Set In A World Reshaped By Climate Change

Demagog Studio and Rogue Game’s Highwater, an indie game set in a waterlogged apocalyptic future, was announced at Summer Fest Game Fest Live. It’s an adventure strategy game that explores a world “ravaged by extreme climate change.” Highwater will feature isometric turn-based combat and is set to release in December 2022, according to Highwater’s Steam page.

A narrator in the trailer introduces the game’s setting with a calm statement, “The world ended on a sunny day.”

The devs also explained the game’s setting on Highwater’s Steam page. The flooded region, which we saw a lot of in the trailer, is a safe zone between two dry regions: the barren War Zone and Alphaville–the place where rich people live in relative luxury.

You play as Nikos and his friends who are trying to figure out to survive in the new world–first traveling to Hightower and then finagling a way into the seemingly impenetrable Alphaville. Along the way, you’ll be accompanied by the Highwater Pirate Radio Station, a feature that apparently will be “vocal commentary on your ticket to survival.”
