Hogwarts Legacy Relationship Quests Explained

Starting school as a fifth-year student in Hogwarts Legacy means you’re older than much of the student body, but only as experienced as the first-year kids. That means making friends and getting to know people in your Hogwarts House can be tricky. But the game’s Relationship Quests make it easier not just to level up, but also to meet your classmates and others living at Hogwarts. Here’s what you need to know about these quests.

Relationship Quests, as they’re called in-game, encompass many different types of optional side missions. These often involve those from your own House, but can also include other characters from around the school, including students both younger and older, students from other Houses, and even ghosts or teachers at times. A few examples of situations to arise out of Relationship Quests we’ve seen so far include:

Some students will ask you to help them out, which tends to involve a relatively simple task.A select few supporting characters can join you in duels, competitive mini-games, or team-based activities. There are some characters who play important roles in the advancement of the story. In some cases, buddying up with a particular character and doing their sidequests can unlock new spells (i.e., the Unforgivable Curses).

These quests always grant XP for your character and often come with other rewards too, including commonly doling out new wand handles to customize your magic wand. While players mainlining the game won’t find much necessity in many of these quests, those who are looking to meet everyone and do everything in the game will want to look out for the white quest markers over characters’ heads, as these indicate Relationship Quests.

Hogwarts Legacy is developed by Avalanche Software, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game has been embroiled in controversy due to transphobic remarks from Harry Potter author JK Rowling. Although she is not personally involved with its development, she stands to profit from its success. For more, read our in-depth article on how Rowling’s comments have impacted the trans community.
