Inside Out 2 Passes Super Mario Bros. Movie, Now No. 1 Highest-Grossing Animated Movie Ever

Pixar’s Inside Out 2 has surpassed The Super Mario Bros. Movie and is now the highest-grossing animated movie of all time. Inside Out 2 has now earned $1.462 billion globally, beating out The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $1.361 billion.

Walt Disney Animation’s Frozen II, was previously the No. 1 highest-grossing traditional animated movie ever with $1.453 billion at the global box office. But it’s now been surpassed by Inside Out 2.

Disney’s The Lion King from 2019 made more than $1.6 billion at the global box office, but director Jon Favreau and many others do not consider it to be a true animated movie. All of these box office numbers came from Amazon’s Box Office Mojo website (via Collider).

Inside Out 2 has earned $598 million from North America and $849 million from international markets. Inside Out 2 is of course also Pixar’s highest-grossing movie as well, surpassing the previous record-holder, The Incredibles 2 ($1.242 billion).

Directed by Kelsey Mann, Inside Out 2 once again focuses on the young girl Riley and the emotions inside her head. She’s older now and has a new emotion, anxiety, who is voiced by Maya Hawke. Amy Poehler returns as Joy, along with Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust.
