Apple will soon release its most gaming-friendly smartphone yet. iPhone 15 preorders are now live, including those for the top-tier iPhone 15 Pro. In addition to the slew of upgrades and the new USB-C port, the iPhone 15 Pro will include what Apple claims is the fastest processor currently on the market. In an interview with IGN, the team touted that “it’s going to be the best game console.”
The iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 chip comes with a 6-core GPU to support Apple’s push for gaming. It went so far to announce that the iPhone 15 Pro will also natively support several AAA games like the Resident Evil 4 remake, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Death Stranding. Some of them will even support ray tracing.
Graphically complex games could easily stress the hardware of a compact device like a mobile phone. Apple reps said not to worry, though.
Kaiann Drance, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, told IGN that the team prepared the iPhone 15 Pro to reach high resolutions and frame rates and sustain them. MetalFX, Apple’s graphics performance booster aimed at games, is just one of the technologies that will help developers achieve that.
“[Developers] could in theory take this amazing GPU and try to burn a hole through the back of the phone,” said Tim Millet, Apple’s VP of Platform Architecture. “We wouldn’t let that happen, but they could definitely do something that was probably not optimal for the experience. But we give them tools like MetalFX that allow them to really burst up in maintaining an experience for a lot longer if they want to.”
We have yet to see the implementation, so we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can now pre-order the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro from the Apple website and major retailers.
