James Gunn Dispels Superman Casting Rumors

While he’s undoubtedly busy ushering in a new era for DC Studios, James Gunn still has time to shoot down rumors about his projects. For instance, The Superman: Legacy writer and director dismissed the idea that casting for the titular superhero would soon be announced.

Variety reports Beyond The Trailer host Grace Randolph propagated the idea that Superman was possibly already cast or DC Studios was in final talks with an actor. She even implied the frontrunner was Percy Jackson movie star Logan Lerman. Gunn swatted these down on Twitter.

“Not true,” Gunn wrote. “Haven’t had a single talk with a single actor about the role. Just making private lists, prepping material for auditions.” He added that he didn’t even know who Lerman is, though clarified that’s not a shot at the actor. Gunn mentioned he doesn’t “know the names of a lot of actors.”

Earlier this month, Gunn announced he was directing Superman: Legacy for Warner Bros. Discovery. It will be the first film for Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters and will help launch the new generation of DC Studios. Previously, Henry Cavill portrayed the Man of Steel on the silver screen.

Superman: Legacy is planned to premiere July 11, 2025. The DC film will see the superhero attempting to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. It won’t be an origin story.
