James Gunn Will Stop Responding To Many Of The DC Rumors

Writer-director James Gunn is known for responding to rumors about his movies on Twitter, but the filmmaker will stop doing that as much in the time ahead.

Posting on Twitter, Gunn said he has been getting “barraged with bullsh** DC rumors…” Going forward, Gunn said he is going to “slow down” on responding to rumors via social media, “unless it’s especially egregious,” he said.

Some rumors are true, or partially true, but Gunn isn’t planning to keep responding. Doing so could enable people to continue the behavior, he said.

“I’ll just reiterate the general rule not to believe anything unless it comes from me or [DC Studios co-head Peter Safran],” he said. “There are three reasons for this: 1) Some people are making up lies to get attention from me or to get clicks & I don’t want to encourage that. 2) I’ve read a hundred rumors this morning. ONE of them is half-true. So I don’t want to be used as a way for people to throw nonsense at the wall until something sticks.”

Finally, Gunn said he doesn’t have time to spend as much time writing back to people on social media because he is in the process of storyboarding Superman Legacy.

The latest rumors about DC Studios pertain to Superman Legacy. Reports and rumors have suggested that David Corenswet (Pearl) is a “top contender” for the role of Clark Kent/Superman. Nicholas Hoult (The Great) is also believed to be in the running for Superman or Lex Luthor. Other actors who may be in the running for Superman include Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) and Andrew Richardson (A Call to Spy).

As for Lois Lane, a number names have surfaced as potential candidates. These include Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), and Samara Weaving (Scream VI).

Gunn previously discussed at a high level what he’s looking for in an actor to play Superman. “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien,” Gunn said. “It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”

Now that Gunn is co-head of DC Studios, he’s probably hearing all manner of wild rumors about the company’s movies and other developments.
