James Gunn Would Love Margot Robbie To Come Back As Harley Quinn Or Another DC Character

James Gunn, one of the co-heads of DC Studios, has responded to Margot Robbie’s announcement that she might not play Harley Quinn again. Posting on Threads, Gunn said he would “love” to work with Robbie again, whether that’s for Harley Quinn or a different DC character.

“I haven’t talked to Margot about Harley for a long time. But I’d love to work with her again as Harley or as someone else. There are no plans at this time for anyone else to play Harley (I mean, other than in [Joker director Todd Phillips’ Joker 2] or the animated show/s),” Gunn wrote.

Robbie recently made headlines when she said she always envisioned Harley to be “a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters.”

She added: “Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ‘What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”

Robbie played Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad. Lady Gaga is taking over the role for this year’s Joker sequel, which releases in October. The sequel will apparently leverage Lady Gaga’s musical talents, but the film is not expected to be a full-on musical.

Gunn gave other updates on future DC projects as well, stating there will be no Superman: Legacy trailer anytime soon because filming doesn’t even begin until March. Writing, however, has been finished “for a while,” Gunn said. He also discussed Peacemaker Season 2, saying it’s “over halfway written.”
