DC Studios co-head James Gunn has confirmed that his superhero plan–alongside producer Peter Safran–will cover around 8to 10 years. He also let loose that an announcement is planned for later this month that reveals some of their proposal.
Gunn was responding on Twitter to a person asking whether his vision with Safran only goes out three years. The Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker said that’s not the case, stating, “… Our slate is 8 to 10 years (but we will only be announcing some of it this month).” Additionally, the director debunked the idea that Wonder Woman wouldn’t be a part of the early plan of DC Studios.
These questions arose from a Variety report focusing on Dwayne Johnson’s attempt to change the hierarchy of power at DC Studios. Johnson apparently had his own multi-year plan for the superhero universe after the Warner Bros.-Discovery merger, in which Black Adam and Henry Cavill’s Superman would eventually face off. That obviously isn’t happening. Cavill won’t even be returning as Clark Kent.
One aspect of the report Gunn didn’t directly address was Ezra Miller’s future as The Flash. The director wrote that he doesn’t “know what’s out there about Ezra.” Variety mentioned that Miller could continue playing the Scarlet Speedster since they’ve been doing well after starting mental health treatment.
Overall, Gunn has been pretty transparent about the hard choices being made for the DC reboot. He took over DC Studios along with Safran in October. Looking ahead, Warner Bros. Discovery has projects from previous leadership planning to release throughout this year, including Shazam: Fury of the Gods in March; The Flash in June; Blue Beetle in August; and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December.
