King Kong TV Series Coming To Disney Plus – Report

A King Kong TV series is headed to Disney Plus, according to a new report. Deadline reports that Disney Branded Television is now in “very early development” on a original story about the iconic ape.

The report said deals to make the show have “just closed,” and it will be the first live-action Kong TV show. It’s being produced by Atomic Monster, the production company founded by James Wan (Conjuring, Aquaman 2).

The Kong TV series is described as a “serialized action-adventure drama that brings the classic monster story into the modern age, with a return to Skull Island and the dawn of a new Kong.”

The show will dig into the “mythology of King Kong’s original story and the supernatural mysteries of his home…” The TV series is written by Stephany Folsom, who created Paper Girls and wrote for Toy Story 4.

King Kong hasn’t been the star of a TV series yet, but the monster has been all over the big screen. Most recently, there was 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, which saw the two giants do battle. A Netflix anime series, Skull Island, is on tap for later this year.
