Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes' First Clip Introduces Main Characters

The time of Caesar is centuries in the past in the upcoming sequel, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. While Caesar is gone, his legacy as the franchise’s ape hero lives on through the new main character, Noa (Owen Teague). That may be why the first clip from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes establishes a new core trio including Noa, an orangutan called Raka (Peter Macon), and a human girl named Mae, as played by The Witcher’s Freya Allan.

Judging from the clip, it appears that Raka has more experience dealing with humans than Noa does. Their dynamic also seems to echo Caesar and Maurice from the previous trilogy. And because Mae can’t convey what her name really is, Raka decides to call her Nova, which is apparently a tradition based on the girl who helped Caesar and his apes in War For the Planet of the Apes, as well as a reference to the human heroine from the original 1968 film.

Although the clip doesn’t shed light on what brought this unlikely trio together, the previous trailers have revealed that they have a common enemy: Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand), an ape who has perverted the teachings of Caesar while enslaving apes and humans alike as part of his mad quest to reclaim humanity’s lost weapons and technology.

Tickets for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes are now on sale, and the film will be released on Friday, May 10.
