Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Review Roundup – Here's What The Critics Are Saying

Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s release is tomorrow, where players can play as the titular character for the first time in the main series. Here, Zelda finds herself on a quest to save Link and the kingdom of Hyrule. Aiding her is the fairy Tri, who entrusts the princess with the magical Tri Rod that gives Zelda new powers for puzzle-solving and defeating enemies. The visual style is similar to that of the 2019 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

Available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, Echoes of Wisdom takes players not only to Hyrule this time around but also the all-new Still World, which is connected to Hyrule through rifts that lead to a different section of it. It’s a place where people, places, and objects are frozen in time. Much like many entries in the Zelda franchise, there are dungeons, each with a boss that must be defeated to progress the story. Many familiar faces of Hyrule lore appear throughout the game, including the Deku Scrubs, Gerudo, Gorons, and river and ocean Zora.

IGN — 9/10

“The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is far more than some second-tier spinoff, combining the expertly crafted dungeons and item progression you’d expect from a 2D Zelda with the wild creativity provided by Tears of the Kingdom.” — Tom Marks [Full review]

ComicBook — 4.5/5

“Whether you’re a longtime Zelda fan, or someone newer to the series, Echoes of Wisdom is a bold step forward for the 2D entries in the franchise. It took decades for Zelda to have a great game to call her own, but the result is worth celebrating.” — Marc Deschamps [Full review]

Nintendo Life — 9/10

“[Echoes of Wisdom] is easily in contention with A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds as one of the best top-down adventures in the series, and we hope we don’t need to wait another 35 years for Zelda to take a starring role again.” — Alana Hagues [Full review]

Screen Rant — 4.5/5

“Even with this overabundance of options, and even considering the technical limitations and simplicity mentioned above, it’s hard not to play Echoes of Wisdom and think, ‘This is what I’ve been waiting for.'” — Christopher Teuton [Full review]

VG247 — 4/5

“Really, Echoes of Wisdom feels like the perfect sign-off for the Switch with new hardware reportedly on the horizon. It’s a colorful, accessible epic that pushes its console to the limit, with all of the mechanical depth and invention, artistic design, whimsy, and spirit of adventure that you expect from a first-party Nintendo adventure.” — James Billcliffe [Full review]
