Lego's Newest Set Recreates The Iconic Polaroid Camera

If you’re feeling nostalgic for the golden age of instant cameras but you don’t feel like shelling out big bucks for a retro piece of technology, good news! The latest Lego preorder has gone live, and this time, the humble Polaroid camera is in the spotlight. Fresh from the Lego Ideas and designed by the brothers Marc and Nick Corfmat, this $80 building set will allow you to build a replica of the original 1977 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 camera.

Just like that iconic camera, it comes loaded with several authentic touches like the signature rainbow stripe, a viewfinder, and an exposure dial. It can even instantly “print” a photo, as you’ll build three slides that can be stored in a Polaroid Time-Zero film pack.

When you feel like emulating the point-and-shoot photography of the ’70s, you can insert one of these slides into the body and press the red shutter button to eject it. A nice extra touch here is that one of the slides has a Lego version of Edwin H. Land, the inventor of Polaroid.

At 516 pieces in size, it sounds like a nice way to spend an afternoon, and its compact nature form will make it easy to display on a shelf or desk.

The Lego Polaroid OneStep SX-70 releases on January 1 and is available to preorder for $80 at Amazon and directly from Lego. Amazon orders placed now will arrive as soon as January 2 for Prime members.

In the meantime, you can pick up a Polaroid Go for $70 (normally $100) and a pack of film for $17 right now. This instant camera also takes plenty of design cues from the SX-70. It’s an entry-level camera, but it’s great for some instant photographic fun.
