Elijah Wood will appear in an AT&T Super Bowl ad this weekend, the company has announced. The video is promoting AT&T’s new fiber connections, and it does so with a unique hook.
A group of Lord of the Rings super-fans have the chance to meet the Frodo actor and ask him anything. Wood calls on one of the attendees, PreciousBaggins25, and just as he’s about to ask his question, his connection dies. That wouldn’t happen with AT&T Fiber, or at least that’s what the telecom giant wants you to think.

AT&T is the parent company of Warner Bros., which has the rights to Lord of the Rings, which is why this sort of thing is possible.
Super Bowl LV takes place this Sunday, February 7 on CBS. We are expecting loads of ads and commercials, but perhaps not as many film trailers this year. For more, check out GameSpot’s roundup of all the Super Bowl LV ads so far.
