M. Night Shyamalan's Old Gets Chilling New Trailer

Universal Pictures has released a new official trailer for the always interesting and polarizing filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan’s (The Sixth Sense) upcoming movie, Old. It will be in theaters starting July 23.

Old is a “chilling, mysterious new thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly…reducing their entire lives into a single day.” It should make for an interesting and upsetting experience for theatergoers cautiously leaving quarantine. Check out the trailer below.

The movie is based on the 2011 graphic novel Sandcastle, by Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters. Based on this trailer, it sounds like the movie will be a fairly faithful adaptation–the graphic novel focuses on a group of tourists who find themselves trapped in a seemingly idyllic cove, where the aging process is rapidly accelerating. Old’s cast includes Gael García Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle), Ken Leung (Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Jupiter Ascending), Abbey Lee (Lovecraft Country), Kathleen Chalfant (Showtime’s The Affair), and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit).

Shyamalan’s latest movie was 2019’s Glass, which rounded out the Unbreakable trilogy that began in 2000. His best-known movie is The Sixth Sense, which earned multiple Oscar nominations; some of his other directing credits have included Signs, The Village, Lady in the Water, and After Earth.
