Marvel Dropped Fake Rumors About Deadpool And Wolverine's Cameos

Now that Deadpool and Wolverine has had its world premiere, some of its secret cameos are bound to be spoiled if fans aren’t careful about where they look before opening wide on Friday. There have been a lot of rumblings about who would be in this film, and it turns out that a good number of those rumors were planted by Marvel itself in an attempt to preserve Deadpool and Wolverine’s surprises.

“There may or may not have been some subterfuge and [misdirection] on the internet or in-person in order to protect the secrecy,” explained executive producer Wendy Jacobson during an interview with GamesRadar. “I can neither confirm nor deny any cameos in this film, but I will say, in terms of characters that may or may not appear, it was always important to us that nothing in this movie feels like a gimmick. Anyone showing up has a crucial story purpose or a beginning, middle, and end as a character arc. It was definitely a collaborative process of seeing who fit in and who didn’t.”

The most prevalent fake rumor was that Taylor Swift would appear as Dazzler, although Marvel didn’t take credit for that one. Most of the confirmed cameos came from Marvel itself, which notably includes actors who have previously appeared in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men films. Logan’s Dafne Keen is back as X-23, with X-Men’s Aaron Stanford as Pyro, and Tyler Mane as Sabretooth for the first time since the original X-Men movie in 2000.

Marvel wouldn’t have revealed those cameos if there weren’t even bigger surprises in the film itself. But fans will get the chance to see for themselves when Deadpool and Wolverine opens in theaters on Friday, July 26.
