Marvel’s Eternals landed on Disney+, which means if you’re a subscriber to the streaming service, you can now watch the MCU movie right this second. And no, it’s not behind the Premier Access paywall.
Set in the year 5000 BC, Eternals tells the story of 10 ancient and immortal superpowered gods waging war against the Deviants. For the MCU, it is impactful archaeology exploring the shared universe’s history. Eternals took in $401.8 million at the box office.
In GameSpot’s review of Eternals, Mason Downey called the movie a “gorgeous experiment… [that] doesn’t feel like any other movie in the MCU.” Before the film came out, Director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) said in an interview last fall that the new movie will have a big impact on the MCU.
“I think we stand alone as a film for sure,” Zhao told GamesRadar’s Total Film. “But I do think we will have a very big effect on the future of the MCU with what happens in this film. Which, you know, as a fan, is really satisfying for me! I geek out.”
When Marvel’s Eternals was first announced as coming to the MCU, studio president Kevin Feige described the tone as being “full Jack Kirby,” referring to the famed comic book artist/writer’s unique and colorful cosmic art style, and described the characters as “a group of immortals who have been on earth for 35,000 years, but we haven’t met them before.”
Elsewhere, recently in the MCU, actor Gael García Bernal (Old, Coco) was cast in an upcoming Halloween special from Marvel Studios for Disney+. The special’s plot details are still completely under wraps. The latest MCU movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, came to Disney+ in November.
Pixar’s Turning Red recently pivoted from a planned theatrical release on March 11 to instead have a Disney+ streaming debut instead on that date.
