Mecha Break Puts A Co-op Spin On All-Out Armored Core-Style Action

Mecha Break–a competitive mech-action game that also includes a 48-player battle royale mode–was announced at The Game Awards 2023. In the announcement trailer, we get a sense for the game’s flashy tone, which takes clear influence from Gundam and Zone of the Enders while also featuring extremely fast combat that should make it a blast in multiplayer.

The trailer, which features a few different combat scenes, sees a mech soaring through the air, firing off barrages of missiles and narrowly avoiding enemy fire. We see mechs on the ground that are battling it out with melee weapons, as well.

Now Playing: Mecha BREAK – Official World Premiere Gameplay Trailer | TGA 2023

Mecha Break features squad-based combat, with players split into groups of three or six. The battle royale mode should be particularly chaotic, however, given that the mechs can attack from pretty much anywhere with a mixture of small arms, explosives, and close-quarters strikes.

The mechs are piloted, so there will be plenty of backstory to uncover, and a huge cataclysmic event called “The Catastrophe” has all but destroyed Earth via a series of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and the emergence of a dangerous material called Eruptive Inorganic Carbide. That all sounds pretty terrifying and it’s not completely clear yet how mechs battling will solve this problem, but we’ll have to wait and see when we get our hands on the game.
