Meet Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City's Wesker

In the Resident Evil video gaming series, Albert Wesker is a man defined by how cool he looks wearing his trademark sunglasses. With Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City hitting theaters on November 24, let’s take a closer look at how the character fits into the new movie.

Wesker is played by Tom Hopper (Umbrella Academy). Considering this movie is following the story of the Resident Evil video game franchise a bit more closely, you would probably expect Wesker to be manipulating things behind the scenes. However, this is a bit more of a origin story for him. Check out the video below for more info.

Now Playing: Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City – Albert Wesker Vignette Trailer

“Albert Wesker is known in the games to be one of the key villains of the story,” says Hopper. “We didn’t want him to be a stereotypical villain. We wanted him to be likeable. We’re seeing who he really is underneath the sunglasses. It’s an origin story that brings that version of Wesker… It really does feel like we’re making the movie version of the game.”

“We watch his character evolve and become the Wesker that we all know from the games,” explains director Johannes Roberts.

The film stars Kaya Scodelario (Crawl, The Maze Runner) as Claire Redield, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Neal McDonough (The Flash) as William Birkin, and Avan Jogia (Zombieland) as Leon Kennedy. Roberts has written and directed the film. If you missed them, you can look at the videos for Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, and Leon.

Recently, a trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was released, for the upcoming November film, and it shows it’s pretty faithful to the video game series. You can also check out our trailer breakdown as well.

There’s also a Netflix live-action TV series set in the Resident Evil universe coming in the near future. The show takes place in the future and follows Wesker’s teenage daughters. So far, the only thing that’s been released are photos of the cast.
