Months after the initial reveal, Meta finally confirmed the Quest 3 mixed reality VR headset will launch on October 10 during today’s Meta Connect live stream. Alongside the full reveal, Meta announced that the Xbox Cloud Gaming library will be playable on Quest 3 in December. The new headset will come in two storage capacities: 128GB for $500 and 512GB for $650. Preorders are available now for the 128GB base model at major retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop.
All Meta Quest 3 preorders come with Asgard’s Wrath, which is set to release in Winter 2023. Meanwhile, the 512GB model also comes with a six-month Meta Quest+ subscription, which grants access to two games each month.
A batch of Meta Quest 3 accessories are also launching alongside the new headset, including a carrying case, Elite head straps and controller fasteners for more secure fits, and silicone face pad replacements in multiple color options. All these accessories are available for preorder now.

The Meta Quest 3 runs on a second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chipset and 8GB RAM, with either 128GB or 512GB internal storage depending on the model. Its LCD screen features a 120Hz refresh rate and 2064 x 2208 per-eye resolution, and the stereo speakers offer 3D spatial audio.
For mixed reality, the Quest 3 boasts a pair of RGB cameras with 18 PPD (pixels per degree) that offer double the passthrough resolution of the Quest Pro (10 times sharper than the Quest 2).
It also sports a lightweight design that’s nearly 40% slimmer than the Quest 2, according to Meta.
The Quest 3 comes with a pair of the new Touch Plus controllers that feature TruTouch haptic feedback and hand-tracking support out of the box. The headset supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 connections.

The Meta Quest 3 carrying case is large enough to hold the Quest 3 headset, Touch Plus controllers, charging cable, and all other pieces of the setup, including the optional Elite Strap. The case features a gray felt shell, snag-free zipper, and plastic inner compartments each cable and accessory slots into. The case comes with a one-year warranty.

The Quest 3 Elite Strap accessory is a compact and lightweight replacement strap with a silicone cradle that helps distribute pressure evenly and can be refitted on the fly using its adjustment dial. The Meta 3 Elite Strip starts at $70, and there’s a $120 version that includes a built-in battery that can add up to two more hours of playtime.

The Meta Quest 3 Silicone Facial Interface are silicone cushions that slot into the front of the headset. The silicone material is sweat- and dust-resistant, making the pad easy to clean after long, sweaty play sessions. They also contour to your face shape, offering a more snug fit and sealing out external light for a more immersive experience.
You can preorder the standard gray Silicone Facial Interface for $40 at Amazon and Best Buy. A $50 orange version that includes a matching replacement head strap is also available at Amazon and Best Buy, as is a $50 blue version at Amazon and Best Buy.

These $40 knuckle straps attach to the Touch Plus Controllers that come standard with all Meta Quest 3 models, making for a more secure fit and grip. The straps are adjustable and made with breathable nylon.

Like other Quest devices, the Quest 3 is a wireless VR headset that runs all games and apps directly on the headset, meaning you don’t need to plug it into a gaming PC or console to play. It also means game compatibility and performance depend on the headset’s internal hardware, but based on the specs, the Quest 3 looks to be a big upgrade over the previous iterations, with stronger specs and a lighter, slimmer design that could make for a more comfortable VR experience.
With more than 500 games and experiences already available on the Quest platform, there will be plenty to play at launch. The upcoming launch of Xbox Cloud Gaming on the Quest 3 will significantly expand the library of playable games as well.
