Konami announced that it’ll release a PlayStation 4 version of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, alongside the previously announced PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S versions.
Konami said that there were many requests to put the collection on PS4, so now the company will be releasing a digital-only version on the platform. On PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X|S, the collection will be available both physically and digitally.
While the release date for the other versions is October 23, Konami did not confirm pricing or a release date for this digital PS4 version. The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 contains the first three games in the series, including Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
In GameSpot’s Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 preview, we said, “Not only is it great to have all of these pieces of Metal Gear history preserved in one place, but the ‘Vol. 1’ designation implies that Konami knows it has more that it can do with the series.” However, the collection apparently only runs at 720p, at least on some platforms, and the Switch version runs at 30fps.
The fact that the collection has Vol. 1 attached to it implies that Konami could be porting more Metal Gear games to other platforms later. Fans have been clamoring for a port of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots as the game is only available on PlayStation 3. Right now, Konami is working on a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Unfortunately, series creator Hideo Kojima has been confirmed to not be involved.
