Microsoft Kills $1 Game Pass Trial Just Days Before Black Ops 6 Launches

Microsoft is no longer offering $1 Game Pass trials, killing the option just days before Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches into Game Pass on October 25. So anyone who wanted to sign up for the 14-day $1 trial to play Black Ops 6 won’t have the ability to do that effective immediately.

This is in keeping with tradition for Microsoft, as the company also removed the $1 Game Pass trial just ahead of Starfield’s launch in September 2023. The only way to play Black Ops 6 at launch through Game Pass now is by subscribing to Game Pass Ultimate at the full $20/month rate.

Black Ops 6 is arguably the biggest Game Pass launch since the subscription service debuted. No previous Call of Duty game in the franchise’s history has been available at launch through a subscription service.

Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can play Black Ops 6 at launch, but Game Pass Standard and Core members cannot. Game Pass is not offered on PlayStation, so people on PS4 and PS5 have to buy the game outright to play it. You don’t need a console to play Black Ops 6, as the game will stream through Xbox Cloud Gaming (which requires Game Pass Ultimate) and Nvidia’s GeForce Now. Alternatively, you can play Black Ops 6 through Amazon’s Fire Stick via the cloud. Amazon has a great deal now where you can get a 4K Fire Stick, Game Pass Ultimate, and an Xbox controller for only $75–that’s everything you need to play right at launch.
