For the third year in a row, Lego is releasing a massive Lego Super Mario set that looks absolutely incredible. Dubbed The Mighty Bowser, the new set focuses entirely on King Koopa. Coming in at 2,807 pieces, The Mighty Bowser is the largest set in the Lego Super Mario line so far. It’s not available to preorder just yet, but The Mighty Bowser costs $270 and releases October 1. The listing is live on the Lego Store, and we will update this article once preorders go live.
Lego showed off The Mighty Bowser’s build and unique features in a video that you can watch below.
Though most of the pieces in the build will go toward creating Bowser himself, the set also comes with a display stand that looks like a fitting entrance to Bowser’s castle. The build has interactive components to create different poses. You can move Bowser’s head and neck back and forth with a button on the side of his shell. His mouth also opens and closes with a button, and you can also shoot a fireball projectile from his mouth.
Bowser’s legs and tail have “loose joints,” which makes it look like he can jump and wag his tail when moving. So while The Mighty Bowser looks to be a great display piece, the set is also compatible with play alongside the other Lego Super Mario sets.
There’s an action tag that can be pressed with Lego Mario, Luigi, or Peach to simulate battles with the iconic villain. The stand doubles as a battle platform, as the towers on each side of him are built to be knocked over when in battle and there’s a hidden POW Block. You’ll need a Lego Super Mario Starter Course to get the full Mighty Bowser experience.
But just how big is this set? Once completed, The Mighty Bowser (with display stand) is 12.5 inches tall, 16 inches wide, and 11 inches deep.
Like the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Mario 64 Question Block before it, The Mighty Bowser is recommended for builders 18 and up due to the complex and lengthy build.
