Microsoft has confirmed its plans for the Tokyo Game Show later this month, and it includes an event called the Xbox Digital Broadcast that will contain some Game Pass news. This event is geared toward Xbox players in Japan and Asia, Microsoft said in a blog post.
The Xbox Digital Broadcast at Tokyo Game Show takes place on September 21, starting at 6 PM local time in Japan. This works out to 2 AM PDT and 5 AM EDT. It will stream on the Tokyo Game Show’s official YouTube channel, as well as some Xbox social channels. Audio descriptions in English will be available, too, and Microsoft will share more details about the event soon.
“Players can expect to hear progress updates from Xbox and Bethesda Softworks and see a creatively diverse collection of games from creators predominantly located in Japan and across Asia,” Microsoft said.
The company added that it will reveal “exciting new games coming to Xbox Game Pass.”
The Xbox booth on the show floor at the Makuhari Messe convention hall will have a Japan-inspired look featuring iconography of Japan and Xbox.
“The Xbox Nexus and Xbox Series X console are featured alongside Maneki-neko (also known as beckoning cat) and surrounded by Mount Fuji, cosmos flowers, and a Japanese lantern. We hope that Maneki-neko brings good luck to all our players,” Microsoft said.
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and corporate vice president Sarah Bond will host an in-person event near the convention hall on September 23, and fans can apply for tickets via the Tokyo Game Show Twitter/X account.
Microsoft has historically struggled with the Xbox brand in Japan, with the PlayStation and Nintendo brands performing better. Earlier this year, Microsoft hired a former PlayStation executive to lead Xbox partnerships in Japan. Microsoft is reportedly eyeing an acquisition of a Japanese game developer to help bolster its position in the market. Microsoft already owns Tango Gameworks, which is known for The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush.
