The recently announced Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis controllers for Nintendo Switch are available to purchase now at the Nintendo Store for $50 each. You have to be a Nintendo Switch Online member to purchase them, and chances are you’ll only want them if you plan on upgrading to Switch Online + Expansion Pack later this month. The controllers could sell out quickly, but Nintendo tends to periodically release more stock for its retro controllers. Nintendo is allowing members to purchase up to four of each model. Orders begin shipping on October 25.
The new wireless controllers are faithfully designed to match the original looks of these classic gamepads. That means the N64 controller retains its bizarre three-handle design, and the Sega Genesis controller only has three face buttons (rather than the six that were featured on the updated Genesis controller). Weird truth: The release of this Genesis controller means that Nintendo manufactured an official controller for Sega games.
Nintendo revealed pricing details for Switch Online + Expansion Pack during the Animal Crossing Direct stream. Switch Online + Expansion Pack costs $50 per year for an individual membership and $80 per year for a family membership (supports up to eight users). That’s quite the leap in price from the standard tier ($20 for individual, $35 for family). The Expansion Pack tier includes access to a growing library of N64 and Sega Genesis games as well as the newly revealed Happy Home Paradise Animal Crossing DLC.
