Netflix is cutting more jobs as part of a wider “streamlining” at the company’s animation division. Deadline reports that Netflix is laying off 30 people as part of this round of cuts; Netflix confirmed the job cuts to the site.
The layoffs represent the first big move from Netflix’s new animation leaders, Karen Toliver and Traci Balthazor, who were reportedly asked to streamline the team.
According to Deadline, Netflix is not, however, looking to slow down its animation output. Netflix’s animated films have earned seven Oscar nominations over the years, including a win for If Anything Happens, I Love You. Some of Netflix’s upcoming animated films include Pinocchio from Guillermo del Toro and a new Wallace and Gromit film and a Chicken Run sequel from Aardman.

This was just the latest round of job cuts at Netflix. Earlier this year, Netflix parted ways with 150 workers in the US, including 70 roles within the animation department.
Recently, The Wall Street Journal reported that Netflix was look to control costs by hiring more junior staff, being more disciplined about cloud-computing costs, and cutting down on free swag for employees. Netflix has lost a lot of subscribers lately, and is facing a lawsuit because of it.
In other Netflix news, the company’s new ad-based subscription tier is expected to launch in November, just ahead of Disney’s rollout of its own ad tier. Additionally, Ubisoft is bringing games to Netflix Games.
