Netflix announced last year that it was partnering with Legendary Entertainment to produce an animated series based on the King Kong movie Skull Island. Now, as part of Netflix Geeked Week 2022, the streaming giant has released the first image of its simian giant’s hand/footprint, with two characters standing at the center.
The anime will follow a shipwrecked crew on Skull Island, facing off against the island’s native fauna and against the big guy himself, according to Netflix. Aside from that, we know very little about the show, other than that animation house Powerhouse Animation (Masters of the Universe: Revelation) will be bringing it to life. The show will be executive produced and written by Brian Duffield (Underwater, The Babysitter) and Jacob Robinson.
Netflix has not yet released any further detail about the story, voice cast, composer, or release date, though it’s worth noting that the plot of the animated series seems to pretty closely mirror the plot of the 2017 live-action film of the same name that starred Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson, based on the few details we have so far.
Skull Island is one of many animated series included in the animation-focused day of Netflix Geeked Week 2022. Others include Dragon Prince Season 4, Uncle from Another World, Inside Job Season 2, and more.
