Because it was included in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater may be still be fresh in the minds of fans who revisited the franchise in 2023. That’s why it feels a lot like deja vu to see the betrayal of Naked Snake play out all over again in the upcoming remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which had a new trailer debut at the Tokyo Games Show.

There’s not much, if any gameplay in the new trailer. Instead, it focuses on the first mission of the game as Naked Snake–the future Big Boss–goes behind the Iron Curtain to retrieve a Russian scientist named Sokolov. In the lore of the game, Sokolov is the creator of the Shagohod, a nuclear tank that is the forerunner of every Metal Gear that came after it.
The trailer features Snake’s first encounter with Ocelot and offers a glimpse of the elite Cobra Unit. But more importantly, it reenacts Naked Snake’s betrayal at the hands of his mentor, The Boss, as she turns on her country and defects to Colonel Volgin’s renegade Soviet forces. From there, Snake’s mission takes a turn for the worse as Volgin launches a nuke that will have repercussions later in the game. To close out the trailer, Snake finally meets Eva, the double agent who proves to be his only reliable ally in the country.
Metal Gear Solid 3’s original voice recordings were retained for the remake, including David Hayter as Naked Snake, Lori Alan as The Boss, Michael Bell as The Fear, Richard Doyle as The Fury, J. Grant Albrecht as The End, Neil Ross as Colonel Volgin, and Suzetta Miñet as Eva.
Konami has yet to reveal the release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
