New Resident Evil Clip Shows How Bad Things Really Are In The Year 2036

For over 25 years, the Resident Evil franchise has haunted and frightened fans through video games–their subsequent remakes, a film franchise, and a soon-to-be television series from Netflix. The new series will split the focus into two timelines, one in 2022 at the start of the T-virus spread, and one in 2036 to show how bad things eventually got.

Netflix released a new clip hyping the show that has Jade in the future realizing she can’t leave the Brighton Freehold because they are surrounded by hundreds of “Zeroes,” who have been infected with the T-virus and have become cannibalistic mutants.

The first trailer, which was shown during Netflix’s Geeked Week, showed Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, Ella Balinska, and Adeline Rudolph as Wesker’s adopted children, Jade and Billie respectively. It also stars Paola Núñez as Evelyn Marcus, James Marcus’ (Resident Evil Zero’s main antagonist) daughter. Riddick is the first actor of color to play Wesker.

This Resident Evil series is developed by Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) and is the second television adaptation of the franchise after the animated miniseries Infinite Darkness. It’s also the eighth live-action adaptation along with the film series.

Netflix’s Resident Evil has its own timeline and is set outside the set video game canon but has the main story’s backstory and basis.

Resident Evil premieres on Netflix July 14.
