New Xbox Game Pass Titles For September 2023 Revealed, Starfield Leads The Way

September is a pretty great month for games, and if you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you’ll be able to try out several day-one releases through that service. The marquee title this month is obviously Starfield, which launched in early access on September 1 for owners of the collector’s and premium editions of that game.

Developed by Bethesda Game Studios and exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and PC, Starfield has been hyped as being critically important to Game Pass. It officially launches later today. While it is an ambitious game that has an impressive scale, a score of side quests to sink your space-teeth into, and solid gunplay to fall back on when your diplomatic skills fail, more archaic elements and shallow RPG mechanics do hold it back from taking that great leap forward.

Now Playing: Starfield Video Review

“Bethesda’s spacefaring adventure has its moments with impressive scale, satisfying combat, and some worthwhile side quests, but its shallow RPG systems and uninspired vision of the cosmos make for a journey that’s a mile wide, but an inch deep,” Michael Higham wrote in GameSpot’s Starfield review.

Available today, Gris returns to Xbox Game Pass and is a haunting platformer with incredible art direction. In case you missed it the first time, now is a great time to give this enchanting game a second chance. On September 14, the high-speed and gravity-bending world of Solar Ash will be available to explore. From the creators of Hyper Light Drifter, Solar Ash is a game in which you take control of Ash, a Voidrunner who explores the long-abandoned ruins of great civilizations past in a quest to save her planet from destruction.

Lies of P, another day-one release, rounds out the first wave of September Xbox Game Pass releases, as the soulsborne action-RPG puts a new spin on the tale of Pinocchio. Set against the darkly elegant backdrop of the Belle Epoque era, you’ll have to guide P across a city inhabited by lethal automatons, adapt P’s mechanical body for the dangers that lie ahead, and choose which truth or lie to tell in this journey of self-discovery.

Nine games will be leaving Game Pass on September 15, including Aragami 2, Metal Hellsinger, and more. The excellent turn-based RPG Sea of Stars is also available on Game Pass, and the game has been doing very well outside of the subscription service so far. Other new releases from August include The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Everspace 2, and Firewatch.
