One Piece Documentary Shows How The Netflix Show Came Together

Ahead of its arrival on Netflix on August 31, a new behind-the-scenes video of the live-action One Piece adaptation has debuted. In this short look at the upcoming TV series based on Eichiro Oda’s popular manga series, the cast and crew from the show sit down to talk about their characters and how Oda’s manga was brought to life in a new format.

A high-seas adventure set in a new golden age of piracy, One Piece takes place in a world full of sea monsters, Devil Fruit-wielding villains, and Monkey D. Luffy’s quest to find the legendary fabled treasure One Piece and become king of the pirates. In order to claim the ultimate prize, Luffy will have to assemble his own crew, find a ship that’s seaworthy enough to sail the Grand Line, and outwit dangerous rivals seeking the same treasure he’s after.

So far, the One Piece trailers have teased a few of Luffy’s antagonists from the early Manga arcs. McKinley Belcher III plays Arlong, a Fishman who pushes Luffy’s rubber powers to the limit in the original arc, Captain Kuro and his knife-hands are teased in one shot, and Axe Hand Morgan can also be seen getting his metal jaw kicked in a brief scene.

There’s also Buggy the Clown, a pirate who served alongside Luffy’s hero Red Hair Shanks–who ate a Devil Fruit that makes his body virtually immune to being sliced apart–and is capable of some weird tricks.

One Piece stars Inaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
