One Piece Season 2 Won't Feature Jamie Lee Curtis

Following last year’s debut of the live-action One Piece series on Netflix, a popular fan cast picked Jamie Lee Curtis to play Dr. Kureha in Season 2. Curtis not only endorsed the fan cast, she said she would lobby for the role after the end of the actors’ strike. Unfortunately, Tomorrow Studios–the production company behind the series– has confirmed that Curtis will not be joining the show.

“She loves the show. She has too many films and TV shows that she’s going into production on so our production dates aren’t going to work,” Tomorrow Studios president Becky Clements told Deadline. “She definitely wanted to do it, but she’s got deals in first position, and it just became complicated.”

Last year, Curtis was so enamored with the idea of playing Dr. Kureha that she shared this piece of fan art that featured her as the character.

Regardless, Clements indicated that “an amazing person” has been cast as Dr. Kureha in Season 2. Whoever landed the role has not yet been announced. However, Curtis does have a leading part as Dr. Patricia Tannis in the Borderlands movie on August 9.

One Piece Season 2 is currently in production, but Netflix hasn’t set a premiere date yet.
