It’s been two years since the Metal Gear movie was announced with Oscar Isaac donning the tactical gear and bandana of protagonist Solid Snake. Isaac has been in demand for years, and having joined the MCU and planning to do more Moon Knight, things get even more hectic for the actor. However, Isaac has made it clear since that he it’s still happening.
Isaac said that they were “searching” for the right story back in March with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island), a notable Metal Gear super-fan, as well as a friend of series designer Hideo Kojima, who is set to direct the film. No sizable updates came out during the summer, but there’s still hope for this project to make it to the big screen.
While talking to ComicBook about his upcoming comic book project with Brian Buccellato and Christian Ward, Head Wounds: Sparrow, Isaac said that he wants to make it happen, not just for himself but for the fans, too.
“We want it to happen,” he said. “Be excited. What’s the script? What’s the story? What’s the take? But hopeful that it comes to fruition because there’s so much potential for that. It’s an incredible game. It’s my favorite.”
The first Metal Gear game hit the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1987, but it wasn’t until Metal Gear Solid on the PS110 years later that the franchise took off. Revered as one of the greatest video games ever, the actual source material is pretty dense, so the length of the film could be considerably long, or even a two-parter right out of the gate.
Currently, there’s no release window for the movie and it doesn’t sound like it’s gearing up to film anytime soon, but it sounds like it’s still present in the star’s mind.
