Patty Jenkins Reportedly Walked Off Wonder Woman 3

DC fans have had a bumpy week with the revelation that Wonder Woman 3 is not moving forward in its current form, plus a slew of other potential DC movie updates. Now, The Wrap is reporting that WW3’s current status isn’t so cut and dry.

Rather than the film being unceremoniously canceled, instead it was reported that director and co-writer Patty Jenkins walked out on the project after clashing with the studio. According to one of The Wrap’s sources, Jenkins wasn’t interested in changing her pitch for the film, and that Warner Bros. Film Group co-chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy “didn’t understand her, didn’t understand the character, didn’t understand character arcs, and didn’t understand what Jenkins was trying to do.” Jenkins reportedly sent De Luca an email that included a link to the Wikipedia page for “character arc.”

Following news earlier this week that the project was seemingly dead, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn took to Twitter to elaborate on the “fractious environment” and the “unavoidable transitional period as we move into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming.”

The Wrap also indicates that, reportedly, Wonder Woman 3 was at one time on a list of projects that “nobody was going to mess with” as DC Studios shifts gears into creating a shared universe. Gunn and his other co-CEO, Peter Safran, reportedly were not involved in the Wonder Woman 3 decision, or how it was previously handled.

In 2020, Wonder Woman 3 was quickly fast-tracked after the franchise’s impressive box office for WW84–at that point, the highest box office since the start of the pandemic.
