Phil Spencer Says Don't Expect A New Xbox Anytime Soon

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has made it clear that players should not expect a major console upgrade from Microsoft anytime soon. In an interview with Bloomberg, Spencer said that “that’s not the feedback we’re getting right now.” He further stated that the company is “pretty set on the hardware we have.”

Spencer offered these comments in the wake of the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, which unveiled a new Xbox Series S with more storage. At that event, Xbox representatives also confirmed that the company has increased supply of the more powerful Xbox Series X in the face of previous shortages.

Now Playing: Starfield Direct – 45 Minute Gameplay Deep Dive

Though the Xbox Series X is only about two and a half years old, hardware upgrades were established as a part of a traditional console cycle last decade. The PS4 Pro released three years into the PS4’s lifespan, and the Xbox One X followed just a year later in 2017. However, it seems that Xbox will forgo such an upgrade, at least in the short term.

The Xbox Games Showcase featured a number of huge announcements, including an in-depth look at the upcoming Starfield, a teaser for the new Fable, and the reveal of Persona 3 Reload. We also saw footage of Payday 3, Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island, and confirmation that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is coming in 2024.
