Pokemon Go Kanto Legendary Raid Day Is Today

Pokemon Go is celebrating the Pokemon series’ 25th anniversary with a variety of Kanto-themed activities this week. Following the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event, developer Niantic held a week-long Kanto Celebration, and it’s capping that off with a Kanto Raid Day featuring Gen 1 Legendaries.

The Kanto Raid Day takes place today, February 28, from 11 AM to 2 PM local time. Throughout the event, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres will all be appearing in five-star Raids, and you’ll have a chance to encounter Shiny variants of each Legendary. Additionally, Niantic teases that there will be new Team Go Rocket-themed Special Research tasks to complete. Through the Special Research, you’ll have a chance to battle Team Rocket leader Giovanni, who’ll have new Shadow Pokemon in his possession.

To help players enjoy the Raid Day, Niantic will offer a free item bundle containing three Remote Raid Passes in Pokemon Go’s in-game shop. This bundle will be available from February 27 to March 1. You’ll also be able to earn five free Raid Passes when you spin the Photo Disc at Gyms or PokeStops during the event. You can read more about the Kanto Raid Day on the Pokemon Go blog.

The aforementioned Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event took place on February 20. Like Pokemon Go Fest, it was a paid event, but due to a technical error, some players got to participate without buying a ticket. To make up for this, Niantic announced it is holding a bonus event for Kanto Tour ticket holders at a later date.

The Kanto Celebration, meanwhile, ended on February 27. That event gave players more chances to catch Gen 1 Pokemon and complete Collection Challenges from the Kanto Tour. March 1 will mark the start of Pokemon Go’s next season of content, and Niantic has a lot of March events lined up for the game next month.
