Amazon Prime Day 2021 is live through June 22, bringing over two million Prime Day deals for members during the sale. But while Prime Day is bringing plenty of game deals and discounts on accessories, consoles have been a big question mark this year, especially the PlayStation 5. Discounts on the console are out of the question, of course, but many gamers are still trying to get their hands on the PS5 at all, leaving one question looming over this year’s big sale: Will Amazon restock the PS5 on Prime Day?
Will there be a PS5 restock on Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day hasn’t brought a restock on the PS5, at least not at Amazon. In fact, Amazon hasn’t commented on the PS5 stock situation at all, and the few restocks that have happened weren’t announced by Amazon ahead of time. The listings for the PS5 and PS5 Digital have a message that reads, “Current unavailable. We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.”
Amazon hasn’t had many major PS5 restocks since the console launched seven months ago. There’s an obvious benefit in using the PS5 to draw thousands of customers to its site on Prime Day, where they might continue browsing the deals afterward. However, it looks as though Amazon isn’t risking the traffic overload that a PS5 restock would certainly bring during its biggest sale of the year. Amazon did restock the Xbox Series X and Series S briefly on Tuesday, so it’s possible PS5 stock could be available later this week.
Amazon’s competitors, all of which are running their own sales during Prime Day, haven’t restocked this week either. Most major retailers have sales that conveniently overlap with Amazon’s event this week: Walmart’s Deals for Days runs June 20-23, Target’s Deal Days runs June 20-22, and Best Buy’s The Bigger Deal sale has daily flash deals through June 22. All of these retailers have a much stronger history of PS5 restocks than Amazon, but despite rumors that Best Buy would be the next to restock the PS5, that hasn’t happened yet.
So with all that said, it doesn’t look as though Prime Day 2021 is bringing a PS5 restock. However, there’s a fairly solid chance you’ll have a shot at buying the console on Wednesday, as PlayStation Direct sent out another batch of invites for select users to buy the PS5 that day, and that usually indicates a public queue will open up afterward. So keep an eye on PlayStation Direct around 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET on June 23.
